LIPA Membership | Assets

With all the challenges facing Community Pharmacists, it's more important than ever that we use our strength in numbers to push back against the predatory business practices of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

LIPA membership includes automatic paid membership to other state and national organizations, audit legal advice and technical support, payment of DME Surety Bonds, and much more.

Check with your wholesaler about LIPA membership. LIPA dues are deductible to you or your wholesaler as a business expense.

Audits & Complaints

  • LIPA Members may request audit advice and support from our legal team to assist in filing PBM complaints to the Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance, La Department of Health, The Department of Justice, and Office of Group Benefits.

  • Over the last year, we've submitted over 90,000 complaints on behalf of our members which have resulted in more than $250,000 in ESI and MedImpact fines.

  • Pharmacies and consumers/patients can also file their own complaints with the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI).

  • Click here to access the form & self-file a complaint. Through this service, LIPA protects its members from aggressive, inappropriate, and illegal audit practices and saves them hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

DMEPOS Surety Bonds

The LIPA team was instrumental in the removal of unnecessary and costly accreditation requirements for providers who have been enrolled in Medicare as DMEPOS suppliers for at least five years. Additionally, LIPA fought to allow DMEPOS suppliers who meet the exemption to release the accreditation at any time.

Cost for LIPA members: $0

LIPA covers the payment of Surety Bonds to allow our member pharmacies to sell Durable Medical Equipment (DME) without incurring any additional costs.

LIPA members receive increased profit when they sell DME because they do not have to cover payment for these surety bonds.

Cost without LIPA membership: $1,500-$2,500

(This is the average cost of a $50,000 Surety Bond.)
